Legacy Photographs

If you’ve ever looked for a great image of your Mom, (thinking about next Mother’s Day here), Only to find that either she’s nowhere to be found, or the snaps you find of her are blurry, don’t represent who she really is, (or was), she’s half hidden by Auntie Rose or making a silly face for the camera..then you’ll appreciate what I have to impart. Legacy photography focuses on making the most of her time in front of the camera. We want to not only capture her grace and beauty, no matter her age, but to also create a moment in time where she is looking back at you, engaging you as if she’s physically right there in front of you. We know we can’t go back in time, but we can hold that moment when she’s feeling beautiful and special - and the focus is specifically on her. How often has she been snapped at birthday parties or mugged for the camera with bad hair, no makeup and an ill fitting outfit you’ve never seen since? Or she’s not in the picture at all because she was the one taking it? This is her time to shine. Having photographs for all time of her (possibly the two, three or four daughters with her) all happy and embracing is certainly priceless. And so is the time during which you’re creating those images on that special day. It doesn’t happen very often, sad to say. I want to change that.

On this particular day, at long last, I managed to get this mother and daughter into the studio for their shoot. Mom was 86 and time was of the essence. I met them in Zumba class, (yes she did Zumba!) and after seeing my before and after images, they were determined to come in for a shoot. It was a great day with lots of laughing and affection and I think it shows in these images just how they love each other. I’m proud to say an enlargement hangs in their home for all to see. Isn’t that what we’d like for all our moms? A legacy to treasure and make us smile.

Mom has since passed yet these lovely images remain as a reminder of the years, the love, and the appreciation her family had for her.
