Let’s face it, most of us have a charmed life. We may have had difficulties along the way, but we’re here, we have a place the scheme of things and have some sort of dreams for our future. Yet we also know that there are those of us who have been through such unimaginable hardships that thinking about them makes the mind reel or shut down completely.
I recently had the opportunity to meet a woman named Tenli Vanrozeboom, who is involved with an organization, Central Coast Freedom Network, which “exists to mobilize the community to counter human trafficking.” The organization has chosen 4 photographers to photograph women who embody character, strength and physical fitness in the hopes that these images will help the victims of human trafficking to see that there is life after their horrific ordeal and that there are positive goals to strive for. So the organization is creating a calendar using these images as a fundraiser and an awareness raiser too.
I was honored to photograph 3 charming, vivacious women who reflect so much positive energy I wanted to get out there and run a marathon. No, not really… but I would if I could. Our plan was to show them in a natural setting, not so much posing as engaging in the environment. Two of the ladies, Ardy and Linda, are Pilates instructors, and Judy who is 78 years young teaches dance! Her boa certainly added something special to the shoot.
This “Paying it forward” for me is such a small thing ( a tiny piece of the puzzle), but with the dedication of the people at Central Coast Freedom Network it’s bound to have far-reaching effects.
