I’ve recently discovered what I like to think of as my “calling”. I guess over the years I’ve been honing in on my real interest, which is capturing and holding those moments of a woman’s life where she can be herself (or someone else if she chooses) to express her sensuality, her female-ness and her joy in life. I’ve always loved doing straight portraiture, but this is decidedly different. This is a time to have fun, play pretend and dress-up like we did when we were little and also to dig a bit deeper. So back to my question. How do you prepare yourself for a portrait session? Keep yourself still and listen. Share your thoughts and feelings…and possibly why this was a good time to do this for yourself. Open yourself up to a new experience and trust that the person photographing you can bring out the beauty and wonder that is who you are.
On the practical side, come prepared with a good night’s sleep behind you, exfoliated skin, (it’s best to do this 3 days before the shoot), tweezed, plucked and in all ways physically ready for the day ahead. If you have clothes you love, bring them. If you have sensitive skin, bring your prescribed foundation etc. Clean hair, clean nails (a manicure may be in order: it helps if all your nails are the same length!) Do you wear a wig? Is it ready to be photographed? I know it’s hard to think of everything, that’s why I’m suggesting some things that seem obvious but could be easily forgotten.
Most of all come with the attitude that you’re going to slay this experience. My guidance and your energy will do the rest.
Look no further if you want a professional, talented and yet sensitive photographer who will work WITH you. I cannot recommend Andrea highly enough. Despite the fact that I’m quite shy and modest, she encouraged me to relax, and made me feel comfortable and at ease during our sessions. I’ve never perceived myself as being sexy, but I actually enjoyed the experience, and wow! The final prints are awesome! As a full time computer tech, jeweler on the side, and grandmother of 11, the experience helped me realize that no matter what age we are, we can still feel sensuous and look beautiful.
Thank you again Andrea!
Lauren, it was great to work with you and I ‘m anxious to do it again soon!
Andrea is amazing and talented! My experience was such a positive one. It enabled me to see myself in a new light. As a mother of two and a business women being sexy is not at the top of the list. The experience Andrea gave me was one of my most favorite pampered moments! Such a gift to self!
Thank you so much Andrea!
Julie was a terrific subject. She brought her sense of fun and humor with her along with a huge bag of clothes, great shoes and make-up. She was such a good sport and did all that I asked of her. The results were just beautiful.
